About MCYV

Mid-City Youth Volleyball (MCYV) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching children the fundamentals of outdoor volleyball.  In the process of learning basic volleyball techniques and tactics, children will improve their physical health and will develop interpersonal communication skills that will benefit them throughout their adult lives.  MCYV will be devoted exclusively to activities for junior and youth players under the age of eighteen whereas MCYV’s sister organization, The Mid-City Volleyball Group, will focus on adult age groups.

MCYV does not at this time have access to a permanent sand volleyball facility. We offer grass volleyball clinics one day a week on portable nets set up along Bayou St John. Eventually, MCYV will offer year-round weekend tournaments and/or clinics for juniors and youth on sand volleyball courts, and MCYV will hopefully be able to offer a weeknight Junior League as well.  In addition, MCYV would like to start offering after-school volleyball instruction possibly in conjunction with the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission.

Two of the MCYV board members, Thomas Gorman and Peter Hickman, are certified Level I coaches via USA Volleyball’s Beach Coaching Accreditation Program, and they are committed to offering high-quality instruction to a younger generation of players.  Developing a culture of good sportsmanship as well as achievement requires knowledgeable and passionate coaches.  Eventually MCYV will offer USAV High Performance camps and clinics for the most dedicated young student athletes.

Thank you for your interest in outdoor volleyball.  MCYV expects to become a 501(c)(3) charity shortly at which time we will ask for financial support, but in the meantime we appreciate your moral support.  We value the relationships we’ve made, and we always want to expand our circle of friends.  Mid-City Youth Volleyball truly looks forward to seeing you or children on the court someday soon!
